Josh Willson, one of our members, is working on an internship in Houston. He recenty shared this experience of direct, personal answered prayer. Enjoy!
This afternoon I was walking to Jack-In-The-Box for lunch.
Keep in mind that to get there you must cross access roads (AKA drivers who don’t watch where they’re going) under the bridge and then face oncoming traffic that doesn’t stop until the light turns green. Beautiful day. I didn’t really mind the dark clouds passing, thought it would be another hour before the rain started falling. I am wearing white pants with black shirt.
As I cross access road one, and enter under the bridge, it starts raining. Great. Just my luck. So I pressed the button to cross and stepped back under the bridge to shelter me from the rain. I prayed to God, “Alright dude, I trust you to take care of me, but I’m wearing white pants and hearing aids and I don’t really want to get wet.”
Alright, the light turns green, okay to walk, so I bolt before it turns back to the red hand. As I reach the street corner fixing to make my left to cross again, I tapped the “Walk” button, and at that instant, God stopped traffic. I mean stopped. Looked to my left no cars coming in towards me, looked to the other side of the street at the cars stopped, and ergo my walk button came on! As I ran across (more like jogged, I’m too nicely dressed to run, mind you, plus running in loafers is quite a sight to see, and I wasn’t about to entertain those people watching me in their little doo bug cars), the minute my foot left the street and onto the sidewalk everything went roaring again.
So I order lunch and eat. Starts pouring. I mean Pouring, it’s too foggy to see the end of the parking lot.
“Alright God, you got me here, but I’ve gotta get back to work, and it would be nice to be dry too.”
“Trust me, and enjoy your lunch”
I finish lunch watching the rain just anticipating what God will do for me.
“Am I going to have to beg for a ride back over? Am I going to show up at work with muddy pants and soaked-to-the-bone clothes?”
The minute I finished my last fry and refilled my Dr. Pepper, the rain had stopped and the sun comes out.
“Okkkaaaay, that was impressive, dude, but what about the puddles those cars are gonna splash on me as I cross, God?”
“Trust me, and get moving “
As I approach the street corner, someone was already there waiting for me, and had already pushed the button.
As I approached, traffic stopped, no cars were moving. As I crossed, big puddles, but no cars to splash them on my white pants.
Made it under the bridge, passed, still sunny and pleasant. Drying what little damped shirt I had on.
The mnute I stepped into the office buildings where I work, it poured rain again. But I was inside, dry and my pants still white as snow, with a full tummy.
Don’t tell me I just had “Good Timing” or that I was just “Lucky”
Isn’t our God just Awsome?
That was my day, haha. It’s been a good day.
Trust God in EVERYTHING that you do. Everything.
Even a walk to Jack-In-The-Box. :-)
