If worship is supposed to be something like “heaven practice,” then yesterday was certainly that.  I felt so alive, so “toward Him,” if that makes sense!  Thanks Allen, Lorna, and worship band/team  members for so beautifully leading us to... (More) (RSS Feed)

If you happened to be in the first service, let me add an insight from Fred, one of our regular attenders.  After going through the random list of David’s stress-producers (fear, verbal opposition, physical weakness, etc.), Fred made the... (More) (RSS Feed)

Your Picture of Heaven

This week one of the things we're focusing on is what the Bible calls our "blessed hope."  Jesus said that He was going to prepare a place for us, that where He is, there we can be also.

There are a lot of interesting ideas that float around about heaven.  Some people, like Randy Alcorn, believe that most of what we refer to as "heaven" is actually a New Earth.

What does your "sanctified imagination" think Heaven will be like?  Have some fun if you want, but give it some thought, too.

Post your reply below.

Well my wife asked me on a recent light wind day (only 60mph) if I could "imagine no wind in haven"? Then while I was driving along trying to stay on the road I was thinking about that. These thoughts lead me to the following conclusion.
Heaven is like Six Flags over Texas".
(follow me here)
Heaven is going to be great...for everyone!?!? How can that be. While we in West Texas do not like the wind that brings us New Mexico and takes all of our fertile soil to the Metroplex (DFW), if we were to live in a place like Death Valley we would welcome the breeze.....I think.
So how else to make everyone happy? Have parts of heaven where the wind blows and parts that never see a puff.
Then there are people that might get tired of walking on streets that are paved with gold and would like a nice walk by a lake with lush grass beneath their feet.
So, back to Six Flags. If you have never been (where have been all of your life) there are these little areas that are fashioned like different countries. Mexico has a big sombrero, I think it is Switzerland (shameless plug for my name) that has a giant luge/bobsled, etc.
I know if it were me I would love to be in the mountains for a least a large part of eternity but I have talked to people that love the fact the we can see BOTH ends of the earth from here.
So to me, Heaven is like Six Flags with no long lines for the rides, unlimited "Pink Things" (If you have live it you get it) and it is not 100 degrees in the shade and 100% humidity.

To me Heaven is a place where first we can be with Jesus, ALL the time, in person, talking face to face instead of heart to heart with Him. Talking with the One we totally trust; the only One who is always there, always constant. Talking with my Savior, my Redeemer, and my Best Friend. Heaven is being with Jesus forever and ever and ever. It is where He is.

Heaven is a place of no pain. No physical pain, no sickness, no separation from those we love, and no emotional pain. Heaven is a place for emotional rest from the things, places, and people in this world who weigh us down. We can awake each day with peace and feel rest.

Heaven is a place where people like Peggy Cherry, Dawn Pitchford, Ruth Graham, Peter, James, Job, Ester, Ruth, Naomi, Simion, Mary, Martha, Eve, and Snowden Burh and Bessie Hester will be. A gathering place of those we have learned from and gleaned from yet who have gone on before us are; and we will be reunited with them there again. Heaven is the place we get to see them all again – that makes it a very exciting place to go to. Heaven is the place where everyone we love, know, don’t know, and who we haven’t been able to forgive, but HE has, are – and we get to be there with them. AMAZING!!!

Heaven is a place that once you get there, you never want to leave. And for we who know the Lord Jesus, never have to. Are you excited yet? I can hardly wait!!!

Heaven is the place that the Lord Jesus, The Mighty God who created the universe, went and prepared just for me, and just for ever other believer – perfect – to meet our every need. He is my bridegroom and He has gone to prepare a place for the church, for me, His bride, and that place is called HEAVEN! Come quickly Lord Jesus, or get me there soon because thinking about it and You makes my heart long for that place and for You so deeply.

Heaven leaves far more questions than answers for me.The apostle Paul seems to have been given a brief glimpse of what heaven would be like,(2Corinthians 12),which allowed him to unselfishly pour out his whole life in service to others,in hopes that they to would desire to prepare themselves and pursue hard after God,with great assurance and expectation that one day we will be brought back into His presence,His glorius presence, for all eternity. The seperation will be over,we will see Him as he really is,and all the results of the fall of man will be reversed;the lonliness, heartache, pain, suffering, disappointment, disillusionment, emptiness, and everything else that makes it painfully obvious that we have been seperated from from the one we are to enjoy and glorify the most in this life. Christ will return to take up His bride, which HE purchased and made pure by the spilling of His blood, and return to the fellowship once enjoyed between God and the pinacle of His creation.Have you ever wondered what the last face to face conversation between God and Adam was before the fall?

One of my favorite C.S.Lewis quotes, "If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."

God designed us to love Him and enjoy Him forever; Heaven will be the place where redeemed man,a redeemed creation, and a loving redeemer will fulfill all his promises to those who love Him and earnesrly desire to be with Him.

Robin and Dan - Wow! Great ideas. It reminds me of a saying I heard a couple of years ago - "Together has power." That's true a little bit here. But one of the common themes I see in both of your ideas is that Heaven is a together place! Together with Christ, together with others. No more separation!

I'd love to springboard off the Lewis quote. HOW are we made for another world? WHY is this world not our home?

God has put into every man an unquenchable desire to be happy and have a sense of fulfillment in this life. It's the God shaped vacuum we all compare to,a result from the fall where fellowship with God was broken. In this world men spend all there time,strength,effort,etc...trying to find that ever elusive fulfillment. The absolute best that this world has to offer seems to cater to the selfish desires of mens fallen nature and his flesh.Wheather it's money,pleasure,passion,power,success,etc...all that this present age has to offer is a bottomless pit that serves as only a distraction to what is really important in this life, the pursuit of Him and His kingdom.Every encounter Jesus had with the lost pointed this striving out;the rich man was asked to give up his riches and follow Jesus, the woman at the well(what a great story)was obviously a person who desperately sought to be loved at all costs, even her own reputation. We would probably look down on this woman and try to avoid her but jesus saw her heart and knew what she really needed, and offered the forgiveness of her sins and the acceptance she desperately wanted. He offered himself. Then there was Peter and Andrew, who would have probably been content to spend their lives in the profession that was pursued by their fsthers for many generations,Jesus called them out of their fishing boats and called them into a life of fishing for men.How much more exciting and challenging were their lives made when they chose to follow Jesus and learn what was really on God's heart;reaching a lost world and bringing all men to Himself through the teaching and
